Peter Hamor, PhD

Postdoctoral Associate in Pharmacology

Peter graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Biology and a master's degree in Cellular and Developmental Biology from Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. His bachelor's project with Dr. Šárka Kubinová focused on targeted neural differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells and their clinical applications. His master's project with Dr. David Sedmera delineated the effects of Nkx2.5 gene mutations on electrophysiology and action potential propagation in embryonic mouse hearts. Peter then investigated the role of NMDA receptor subunits in epilepsy across developmental stages and the effects of methamphetamine on behavioral responses in rat models at the Czech Academy of Sciences. Peter earned his Ph.D. in Behavioral and Cognitive Neuroscience from the University of Florida in 2021. His doctoral research examined neural circuits and molecular substrates underlying post-cocaine motivational and cognitive deficits, with a focus on the role of mGlu5 receptors. He joined the Pleil lab in 2022 and is currently working on projects exploring the mechanisms of morphine dependence and related context-associated memory formation and stability.
